REQUALIFICATION OF THE “PONTÃO” OF SANTA MARIA

Hydraulics & Maritime works, Buildings

The Pontão de Santa Maria is located on the southern edge of Sal island, on a significant stretch of white sand beach that is home to artisanal fishing, tourism, nautical recreation, and leisure activities, functioning as an interface zone between the sea and a chain of hotels and restaurants. With the growth of tourism, the "Pontão" became the main meeting point in Santa Maria Beach, sought by tourists to experience part of the Cape Verdean culture, especially with regard to artisanal coastal fishing. However, the conditions of the infrastructure have degraded significantly, creating an environment that does not benefit the tourism product that the country intends to promote. The set of economic, tourist and leisure activities that are carried out at the pier are poorly organized, presenting many risks to safety and the environment. The project aims to build a new infrastructure, including a fish market, sanitary facilities, locker room and leasure areas, promoting economic activity and tourism.
