Energy transition at the Port of Sines

30 July 2025

This month marks one year since the completion of the conversion project of Dock 4 TMS into the Cryogenic Liquefied Gas Handling Terminal at the Port of Sines.

As a consequence of the implementation of the national strategy for energy transition, the thermoelectric plants in Sines and Pego were shut down, leading to the deactivation of Dock 4 TMS as a coal loading dock. The dock has thus begun a new life, with the safe and efficient operation of cryogenic liquefied gases, enabling, for example, the operation of LNG tankers measuring up to 250m in length.

MSW was responsible for the design, ordered by the Administration of the Ports of Sines and the Algarve.
