TOURISM MASTER PLAN FOR LUMBO SANCUL

Urban and Regional planning

The Zone of Touristic Interest of Lumbo and Sancul was created through the Decree 73/2010 of 31 December and covers a total area of approximately 5,400 hectare, including the Island of Mozambique, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the surrounding area of Lumbo and Sancul.
As a result of a public tender process, the Tourism Institute (INATUR) contracted a master plan for an area that includes the Island of Mozambique, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the surrounding area of Lumbo and Sancul.
The objectives of the contract are:

  • to produce a masterplan for the touristic development of the Island of Mozambique and surrounding area of Lumbo and Sancul;
  • to create the institutional capacity to secure approval of the plan at the provincial and local level;
  • to identify a suitable zone and for a key project to act as a catalyst for the development of the whole area, develop a preliminary study and the economic and financial evaluation of the project.
